Club Showcase: The Book Club.

The Book Club

Hello and welcome to this week's Club showcase, where I - Courtney Lowery - give you a closer look into the clubs and activities here at school. This week I've covered a club that is near and dear to my heart: the Book Club.

The club was started in 2012 by two close friends of mine, Megan and Zoe, as they were trying to find a way to connect with other book nerds in their first year of a new school. It's been running every Wednesday since in the two friends favourite English classroom. This club has proved over the years to be a great place to meet people with similar interests and has even lead to a lot of inter-year friendships that have lasted beyond graduation. Megan and Zoe can both be counted on to be a familiar face, and are always willing to give some advice to any Book Club goer that needs a hand.

Last week I visited the club in action and was wowed to see a comfortable environment for students to connect with one another. The room has comfortable bean bags and the walls are nice and colourful, creating a welcoming area to discuss books. It even has a jug and microwave reserved for senior students. The selection of books on the wall is truly amazing and it really does have something for everyone. There's even an associated book-centred meme page that the girls run alongside it.

Personally, I would rate my experience with Book Club as a solid ten out of ten. A major positive of the club is its welcoming environment and rich culture. A negative would be it's lack of school attention, as it's often overshadowed by bigger clubs within the school like Code Club. This club has so much potential, and if it could just get more support from the school it could be a brilliant staple of life at Clearview High School.

That's all for this week. With love, Courtney.
